First Federal Judge Rules Against Health Care Reform

A federal judge in Virginia declared health care reform unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is the first judge to rule against the Obama administration’s law, according to the Associated Press.

The original lawsuit was filed by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Cuccinelli’s lawsuit argues that the federal government does not have the constitutional right to require citizens to buy insurance or pay a penalty. Penalties would start taking place in 2014.

Other lawsuits opposing parts of health care reform are currently pending.

Many Health Care Reform opponents, including the U.S. Justice Department, agree that the U.S. Supreme Court will have the final word, according to the Associated Press.
