This month, AMSURG celebrates Cataract Awareness Month. Cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control. More than half of all Americans over the age of 70 have developed cataracts to some degree. Cataracts are common and curable, and typical symptoms include blurry vision, colors that appear faded, glare, double vision and difficulty with night vision.
AMSURG’s YourSightMatters.com will be working all this month promote more awareness for cataracts and their symptoms, treatment options and ways to slow the development of cataracts. YourSightMatters.com will also be using this month to gather more information about cataracts and who they affect by launching a National Vision Survey. Those who participate in this survey will receive a free Better Vision Kit that will offer information on improving eye health and offer an assessment tool that will assess whether they need a comprehensive eye exam to check for cataracts.
