AMSURG partner Jerome Cohen, M.D., Endoscopy Center of the South Bay of Torrance, Calif., has joined the fight against pancreatic cancer by raising funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for pancreatic cancer and providing support systems for patients and their families. Cohen serves on the Executive Committee for the Los Angeles Purple Stride Walk, sponsored by PANCAN.
“I have offered to help [Dr. Cohen] spread the word of this upcoming event. Working at Torrance I have seen numerous seemingly healthy patients get the pancreatic cancer diagnosis,” said Tom Evans, R.N., center leader for Endoscopy Center of the South Bay. “After diagnosis they would come into the [gastroenterology] lab for procedures to relieve bile duct obstructions. It is amazing how fast these once-healthy patients deteriorate. It is a horrible disease.”
