AMSURG partner Shamina Dhillon, M.D., Ocean Surgical Pavilion, was interviewed for a segment called “Using Colonoscopies to Save Lives” that appeared on NJTV News, a public television station in New Jersey.
Dhillon explained how a colonoscope works and how it is used to detect colon cancer during a screening colonoscopy. In many instances, as Dhillon noted, colon cancer has no symptoms.
“This is why this is still the third most leading cancer and the second cause of cancer deaths in patients. This year we’re expecting about 90,000 plus people to actually get diagnosed with colon cancer in the U.S. Up to 50,000 deaths a year,” Dhillon said.
