AMSURG partner Thomas Gage, M.D., Waldorf Endoscopy Center, was featured in Southern Maryland News‘ Health Magazine discussing what it means to be gluten-free when dealing with celiac disease. He also warned patients who are gluten-free to read the labels on all food, not just bread and wheat products.
“Being on a gluten-free diet means avoiding all foods containing wheat, barley and rye, which contain the protein gluten,” Gage said. “One must be a label reader when purchasing food items as these grains may be found in many food products such as sauces, condiments, soups and salad dressings, for instance.”
