AMSURG Partners Expand Care to Treat Rising Youth Football and Basketball Injuries

AMSURG partners Michael Domer, M.D., and Robert Berghoff, M.D., of Gateway Surgery Center in Phoenix, are expanding their sports-related care due to the increase in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in youths.

“With so much pivoting and cutting required during running in both football and basketball, we’re seeing more ACL injuries across the board,” Berghoff said. “The orthopedic doctors at Arizona Orthopaedic Associates (AOA) are seeing an increase in ACL injuries in girls’ basketball as well. Unfortunately, an ACL injury can mean the end of a promising athletic career. That’s why it’s important to report possible ACL tears and treat tears as soon as they happen.”

Domer also serves as team physician for Shadow Mountain High School and the Arizona Rattlers, the professional arena football team in Phoenix.
